HomeEcTeacher is a blog about creative and exciting ways to attract and engage students and teachers in textile technology. Once founded around the home and household, The International Federation for Home Economics (IFHE) now extends its terminology to the wellbeing and empowerment of individuals, families and communities. Home Economics is about seeing people holistically within their home environments. The health and wellbeing of individuals, families and communities is priority. Knowledge about textiles fits within Home Economics due to clothing being a basic human need.
Lately, globally we have seen an interest in the environmental impacts that we as consumers have had on the environment. This is the same for students who have become more aware of the impact their action and decisions will have on the planet. Home economics for too long has been pigeonholed as a subject dominated by older women. The aim of this blog is to break down the stereotypes and engage the next generation with exciting and thought-provoking subject matter.
